Three Palestinian films have been shortlisted for Oscars 2025, which is a significant moment for Palestinian filmmakers.

The final nominations for the Academy Awards will be announced on January 19.

From Ground Zero‘ is an anthology of 22 short films from Gaza and has been shortlisted for Best International Feature.

No Other Land‘ is a documentary by an Israeli-Palestinian collective of filmmakers and set in the Occupied West Bank, while ‘An Orange from Jaffa‘ is a short drama telling the story of a Palestinian looking for a taxi to go through a checkpoint.

The Academy has extended the nomination voting period by two days to Tuesday, January14, at 5pm. PT. This is due to the devastating wildfires in California.

Recently, the Critics Choice Awards took to X (formally known as Twitter) posted, “The 30th annual Critics Choice Awards ceremony has been postponed from January 12th to January 26th due to the catastrophic fires ravaging Southern California.”

The unexpected announcement comes amid the devastating fire in Los Angeles, which has seen several celebrities lose their homes.

For the unversed, Los Angeles has been plagued by uncontrolled blaze since it erupted early Tuesday morning, January 7, 2024.

As for now, the Oscars 2025 scheduled to be held on Sunday, March 2.
