Pakistan’s star Mahira Khan recently recalled her memorable encounter with Indian director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, revealing details of an audition for Heeramandi.
In a candid interview, Mahira shared that her media industry friends arranged the meeting during a visit to India for a close friend’s wedding.
During the meeting, Sanjay requested to take some pictures of her without any makeup.
At the time, Heeramandi was a film project in the making, and Sanjay expressed interest in casting her, according to Mahira.
However, she revealed that “due to the diplomatic tensions between Pakistan and India, it did not work out”.
Mahira also mentioned that she recorded an audition, performing lines from the classic Mughal-e-Azam.
Despite the missed opportunity with Heeramandi, Mahira expressed her gratitude for the chance to share the screen with Shah Rukh Khan in Raees.
Earlier, Bhansali admitted that he wanted to cast Pakistan actors Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan in Heeramandi.
He said, “I thought about Rekha ji and then Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukerji. It was a film back then. I then also thought about Mahira Khan, the Pakistani actress, and Imran Abbas and Fawad Khan were also in my mind at one point of time. But I ended up with this ensemble cast.”
Mahira Khan about her wedding
The actress, who got married last year, got emotional while talking about her son who walked her down the aisle.
She said, “This was a very big moment. I was very proud of my child… I wanted him to walk me down the aisle, so he did!”
“For every time that I was good in some way, I was kind, or looked after people around me. It was as if god put it all together and blessed me and said, ‘Here this is for the good that you have done.’ It felt like that moment. I was constantly saying Alhamdulillah. It was a very big moment for me because I had always imagined my life to be me and Azlan”, she added.
