Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar, the often divisive playwright, has recanted his earlier criticism of Pakistani megastar Saba Qamar over her choice of attire.

In a recent interview with a private news channel, Qamar expressed regret for his past remarks, acknowledging that he should not have made them.

“I realise now that I should not have made those comments about Saba Qamar. It was a mistake… maybe I had high expectations from her because she did one of my best dramas,” the Bunty I Love You writer admitted.

Previously, Qamar had criticised Saba Qamar’s clothing, declaring that he would not cast her in any of his projects due to what he termed as “vulgar” attire, which he felt did not align with his standards. However, in this latest interview, he conceded that the matter is ultimately between Saba and the Almighty.

“I believe it’s a matter between Allah and her,” he noted.

Despite his change of heart regarding Saba Qamar, the Sadqay Tumhare writer maintained his harsh stance on actress Mahira Khan, reflecting on his decision to cast her in a significant role. “I’ll always curse myself for the sin I committed by casting her in a very sacred role in my Sadqay Tumhare,” Qamar stated in 2022.

During the same interview, Qamar also hinted at possibly leaving Pakistan following a recent honey-trapping scandal that involved his abduction and robbery.

The playwright recounted how he was lured by a woman named Amina Urooj under the pretense of discussing a drama project. Once at her residence in Bahria Town, Qamar was coerced into revealing his ATM PIN, resulting in a loss of Rs267,000. He was then forcibly taken, physically assaulted, and abandoned in an isolated area.

In a subsequent press conference, Qamar explained that he had met the woman late at night as per his doctor’s advice to avoid sunlight. The ordeal escalated when the prime suspect, Hasan Shah, allegedly leaked an obscene video of the playwright on social media.
