Renowned Pakistani film director Nadeem Baig has revealed that he would cast actress Hania Aamir to portray Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif in a political biopic, citing a strong physical resemblance between the two women.

Baig, during a recent interview with Iffat Omar, took Hania’s name when he was asked about potential casting choices for a film based on Pakistan’s political landscape.

Initially torn between Hania Aamir and Ayeza Khan for the role, Baig ultimately chose Aamir. “Hania bears a stronger resemblance to Maryam Nawaz,” he remarked during the discussion. The director is known for his work on hit films like Jawani Phir Nahi Ani and has now ventured into speculative casting for a potential political drama.

Casting icons of Pakistan’s political history

The interview, hosted by Iffat Omar, delved deeper into Baig’s thoughts on casting actors for other prominent political figures in Pakistan. When asked about the ideal portrayal of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Baig suggested the late Mohammad Ali, describing Bhutto as having an “enigmatic personality.”

For Benazir Bhutto, Baig selected actress Mehwish Hayat, noting her suitability for the role of Pakistan’s first female Prime Minister. He also proposed Hamza Ali Abbasi as a fitting choice to play former Prime Minister Imran Khan in a biopic, and Bilal Abbas as the actor to portray PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

When it came to President Asif Ali Zardari, Baig believed Sajid Hassan would be well-suited for the role. He also made bold suggestions for the Sharif brothers: casting Shaan as Nawaz Sharif, while Bollywood actor Aamir Khan was suggested as a potential candidate to portray Shehbaz Sharif.

Baig’s hypothetical casting choices have sparked interest and debate among fans and the film industry, offering a glimpse into how Pakistan’s political figures could be depicted on screen.
