Director Rohit Shetty’s latest film Singham Again, the newest addition to his popular cop universe, has been performing strongly at the box office, pulling large crowds with its high-energy action and ensemble cast.

The film has brought back fan favorites like Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, and Akshay Kumar, alongside new entrants Tiger Shroff and Deepika Padukone. Padukone’s portrayal of Shakti Shetty, nicknamed “Lady Singham,” marks the first female cop character in Shetty’s franchise, a move that has energised audiences and hinted at a bold new direction for the series.

In a recent interview, Shetty revealed that he has concrete plans for a standalone film focused on Lady Singham featuring Deepika Padukone, though the project is still in its early stages. He acknowledged that the idea of a female-led film had been in development for some time.

“The wait was to get the right script and the right kind of launch for the character,” Shetty said. He shared that the success of Simmba in 2018 marked a turning point, convincing him that an interconnected cop universe was viable. “When Simmba worked, it gave us the green light to expand, and that’s when Sooryavanshi came in. During that process, we seriously began considering a dedicated female cop film,” he added.

Discussing the standalone Lady Singham project, Shetty stressed that while the character arc for Shakti Shetty has been broadly envisioned, the specifics of her storyline are still under development. “We still have to write it,” Shetty said.

“We do have a concept in mind, but there’s a lot to explore regarding her journey and impact.” The director stressed that Shakti Shetty’s introduction was deliberate and purposeful. “A female-led cop film headlined by Lady Singham will definitely happen. There’s a reason for her presence and prominence in Singham Again,” Shetty stated.
