PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur on Saturday ordered the immediate suspension of the district health officer and the polio eradication coordinator in the Mohmand tribal district following the detection of the province’s first polio case of the year.
The case, involving a nine-month-old girl from Safi tehsil in Mohmand district, brings the national total of polio cases for the year to 21.
In response, the chief minister instructed the health secretary to “immediately suspend” the district health officer and polio eradication coordinator, and to initiate an investigation into the “poor” vaccination campaign in the area, according to an official press release.

Additionally, the health department announced its intention to take action against health workers deployed by partner organiations, including the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and National Stop Transmission of Polio. The department also committed to ensuring high-quality vaccination campaigns in all districts of the province, emphasizing the government’s prioritization of polio eradication efforts.
