The city of Karachi experienced the hottest nights this October which broke a 57-year heat record.
Back in 1967, the lowest average temperature for October was recorded at 30.6 degrees Celsius. However, this year, Karachi recorded a minimum average temperature of 30.9 degrees Celsius, exceeding the previous record by 0.3 degrees.
Heat in Karachi
Meanwhile, parts of Karachi, mostly its outskirts, are expected to experience fog over the weekend due to hot and dry winds affecting the area.
According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the city is expected to experience shorter winter season this year.
The late start of winter season highlights the impacts of the climate change.
Currently, Karachi continues to face unusual heat, with temperatures nearing 40°C.
Smog in Lahore
Meanwhile, an emergency alert has been issued in Lahore amid increasing levels of smog. The Punjab government has advised residents to wear masks, keep windows and doors closed, and avoid outdoor exposure.
In this regard, Lahore High Court (LHC) proposed a policy of work-from-home, school closures, and a complete shutdown of commercial activities to combat the severe smog and reduce health risks in the city.
Earlier, the provincial government imposed green lockdown in different areas if Lahore to fight air pollution and smog. The areas in which in which green lockdown will be imposed all BBQ and outdoor food points will be closed at 8pm.
