‘Jin is back’: BTS’s Jin celebrates discharge from military service with bandmates

WEB DESK: In a heartwarming celebration, K-pop sensation Jin from BTS was discharged from his South Korean military service on Wednesday, greeted by his bandmates with hugs and music. The highly anticipated moment saw RM serenading Jin on the saxophone with a rendition of one of their hits as they marked the occasion.

All seven members of BTS, the world’s most popular boy band, have been fulfilling their military service obligations, mandated by South Korea for all men under 30, amidst tensions with North Korea. The group had been on a self-described “hiatus” since 2022.

Jin, the eldest member of BTS and the first to enlist, emerged from his army base in South Korea’s Yeoncheon county early Wednesday to a warm reception from bandmates J-hope, V, RM, Jungkook, and Jimin. Despite reportedly taking leave from their duties, they made sure to welcome Jin back with a giant bouquet of flowers and heartfelt hugs, while RM’s saxophone performance filled the air with the familiar tune of BTS’s hit, “Dynamite.”

Outside the base, fans had erected colorful banners expressing their support and love for Jin, with messages of appreciation for his 548 days of service. While attendance was limited due to safety concerns, a few admirers, like Natose Sunagawa from Tokyo, couldn’t contain their excitement. Holding a plush doll of Jin and wiping away tears, she expressed her joy at finally meeting her idol.

Jin’s agency, HYBE, announced his discharge on Weverse, a dedicated social media platform for superfans. His return coincides with the upcoming 11th anniversary of BTS’s debut, marked by purple decorations at HYBE’s Seoul office and local cafes.

Looking ahead, Jin is set to engage in a “huggathon” with 1,000 lucky fans on Thursday, followed by his first performance in two years. Analysts view Jin’s smooth completion of military service as a positive indicator for the entertainment industry, particularly for K-pop male idols. Yoo Sung-man, an analyst at Leading Investment and Securities, noted the potential impact on HYBE’s stock price, which showed early signs of growth following the announcement.

As BTS members continue to fulfill their military duties, Jin’s discharge signals a significant milestone for the group and their global fanbase, setting the stage for their future endeavors in the music industry.
