The Islamabad Capital Police have introduced a ‘Smart Traffic Response Unit’ (STRU) to streamline traffic flow and enhance road safety throughout the city. Established on the directives of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, the STRU will enhance travel convenience and offer comprehensive support for citizens navigating the capital’s roads.

According to Chief Traffic Officer Mohammad Sarfraz Virk, STRU is designed to manage traffic during emergencies, handle diversions, and ensure uninterrupted flow on key routes. The unit will provide real-time travel information to citizens, guide them on alternative routes, and offer assistance with traffic updates and safety protocols.

Furthermore, it will work to improve peak-hour congestion near commercial areas, schools, and other critical locations. The STRU’s responsibilities also include promoting awareness around traffic laws, such as lane discipline, and imposing penalties for serious violations to encourage safer driving practices.

In a related initiative, IGP Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi held a public forum at the Central Police Office, engaging with residents and addressing their concerns. The IGP emphasised a commitment to resolving citizen issues on merit, stating that negligence in duty will not be tolerated.

He encouraged citizens facing police-related issues to attend the open gatherings, with his office accessible for public grievances. Rizvi also instructed senior officials to handle citizen complaints within a stipulated timeframe and report back to the Central Police Office.
