Is Jinnah Hospital Lahore being renamed after Maryam Nawaz?

Rumors swirled on social media after a notification allegedly from the Punjab Health Department went viral.

According to the notification, the Jinnah Institute of Cardiology in Lahore was said to have been renamed as the “Maryam Nawaz Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases Lahore.”

The debunked notification suggested a name change for the under-construction hospital, supposedly to pay tribute to CM Maryam Nawaz.

Moreover, PTI social media team member, Azhar Mashwani, also claimed the same in a tweet.

However, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari immediately dismissed the claims. She stated in a tweet that the notification was fake and that there were no intentions to rename the hospital.

It should be noted that the caretaker government had previously renamed the under-construction project as the “Jinnah Institute of Cardiology,” also known as the “Jinnah Hospital.”

The viral notification triggered extensive debate and criticism, as many accused the government of politicizing healthcare institutions. However, the government’s denial has calmed the situation.
