According to the 2023 EURES report, Ireland is struggling with labor shortages in 20 different occupations. The sectors most impacted by these labor shortages include healthcare, IT, engineering, manufacturing, construction, and transportation.
This suggests that foreigners with skills in these high-demand occupations might have a better chance of obtaining a work visa for Ireland.

- Home-based personal care workers
- Health care assistants

- Chemical and physical science technicians
- Software developers
- Systems analysts
- Health professionals not elsewhere classified
- Nursing professionals
- Generalist medical practitioners
- Engineering professionals not elsewhere classified
- Mechanical engineers
- Civil engineers
- Chemists
- Information and communications technology service managers
The report also revealed a pressing need for healthcare workers in Ireland. The country relies heavily on foreign-trained doctors and nurses, making it one of the EU countries most dependent on international healthcare professionals.
