Iran’s President Raisi’s funeral procession to take place today

Iran will hold a funeral procession for President Ebrahim Raisi and other officials today (Tuesday) in Tehran.

Helicopter Crash Tragedy

The Iranian government announced the funeral following a helicopter crash on Sunday. The crash claimed the lives of President Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, and several other officials. After an extensive search, the helicopter was found completely burnt. Adverse weather conditions reportedly caused the crash, but Iran’s military chief of staff has ordered a thorough investigation.

Funeral Details

“On Tuesday morning, we will have the funeral procession in the city of Tehran for Raisi and the other members of his entourage killed in the crash,” Mohsen Mansouri, vice president for executive affairs, told state television.

Interim Leadership and Elections

First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber will serve as interim president. According to the Islamic Republic’s constitution, a new presidential election must be held within 50 days. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei announced five days of public mourning across the country.
