DUBAI: Iran has issued a stern warning to Israel following an airstrike on its embassy compound in Damascus that resulted in the deaths of two generals and five military advisers.

According to Reuters, the attack, seen as a significant escalation, underscores the ongoing tensions between the two nations in the Middle East.

Although Israel has not claimed responsibility for the strike, a senior Israeli government official suggested that those targeted had been involved in attacks on Israeli and American assets. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has vowed revenge, promising that those responsible will face consequences.

Meanwhile, the United States has denied any involvement in the attack, while UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for restraint to prevent further escalation in the volatile region.

Furthermore, Iran’s ambassador to Syria, Hossein Akbari, condemned the strike, stating that it violated diplomatic principles. Meanwhile, Syrian civil defense teams continue to clear the rubble as the death toll rises, with reports indicating casualties among Iranian-backed groups.

However, analysts suggest that the attack signifies a more overt Israeli stance against Iranian interests in Syria, potentially leading to further tensions. Despite international calls for calm, the situation remains precarious as both Iran and Israel assert their positions in the region.
