GUYANA: India secured a spot in the finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 after defeating England in a gripping semi-final clash at Providence Stadium, Guyana. Setting a challenging target of 172 runs, India overcame initial setbacks to post a competitive score.

The match began with a delay due to drizzling and a wet outfield, but once underway, India faced early setbacks with Virat Kohli falling early to Reece Topley after scoring just nine runs. Rishabh Pant followed suit shortly after, leaving India at 40-2 in the 5th over.

However, a resilient partnership between Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma turned the tide for India, with Sharma scoring a crucial half-century before being dismissed by Adil Rashid for 57 runs. Yadav continued the momentum until falling just short of his own half-century, departing with 47 runs to his name.

Despite losing wickets in clusters, contributions from Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel ensured India reached a competitive total of 171 runs at the end of their innings.

England’s bowling effort was spearheaded by Chris Jordan, who claimed three wickets, supported by one wicket each from Adil Rashid, Sam Curran, Jofra Archer, and Reece Topley.

Both teams fielded unchanged playing XIs from their previous matches, with India led by Rohit Sharma and England captained by Jos Buttler.

India’s victory sets up a thrilling final showdown in the T20 World Cup 2024, showcasing their resilience and skill in a closely contested semi-final encounter.
