WEB DESK: In the Pakistan versus India T20 World Cup 2024 match, Pakistan won the toss and opted to field first at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

India’s new number three Pant rode his luck en route a chancy 42 off 31 balls but other batters in the star-studded line-up could not apply themselves on a challenging surface. Pakistan dismissed India with an over to spare courtesy an all-round bowling effort with Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf sharing three wickets each.

India lost seven wickets for just 28 runs as they looked in control at 89 for 3 in the 12th over.

None of the Indian players, facing Pakistan’s fast bowlers including Nasim Shah and Haris Rauf, could score big. The entire Indian team was all out for 119 runs in 19 overs.

India’s batting
Pakistan’s fast bowlers kept the Indian batsmen under pressure from the beginning, taking wickets at regular intervals. Nasim Shah first dismissed Virat Kohli for 4 runs.

Then, Shaheen Shah Afridi sent Indian captain Rohit Sharma back to the pavilion. When Sharma got out, India’s score was 19 runs, as he made 13 runs.

India’s third wicket fell at 58 runs when Nasim Shah clean-bowled Axar Patel for 20 runs, while the fourth wicket fell at 89 runs when Haris Rauf got Suryakumar Yadav caught out after making 7 runs.

India’s fifth player got out at 95 runs, with Shardul Thakur making 3 runs before falling to Shaheen Shah Afridi’s bowling. At 96, Rishabh Pant scored 46 runs before Mohammad Amir took his wicket. This was India’s sixth wicket. On the very next delivery, Mohammad Amir got Ravindra Jadeja out for a duck. Thus, Amir took two wickets on two consecutive balls but couldn’t achieve a hat-trick.

India’s eighth wicket fell at 112 runs when Hardik Pandya was dismissed after scoring just 7 runs. He was caught by Haris Rauf. At 112 runs, India lost their ninth wicket, as Jasprit Bumrah got out without scoring a run, becoming Rauf’s victim. When the last batsman, Mohammed Siraj, was dismissed for 5 runs, the Indian innings ended at 119 runs. This was Pakistan’s seventh wicket.

From Pakistan’s side, Nasim Shah and Haris Rauf took 3 wickets each, Mohammad Amir took 2, and Shaheen Shah Afridi claimed one wicket, while one player got run out. All-rounder Imad Wasim was included in the team in place of Azam Khan.

From India’s side, Rishabh Pant with 46 runs, and Axar Patel with 20 runs were notable batsmen.

Pakistan’s batting
In pursuit of India’s 120 runs target, Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan and captain Babar Azam opened but both failed to establish a significant partnership.

Pakistan’s first wicket fell at 26 runs when captain Babar Azam, after making 13 runs, was caught out by Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling.

Then, young batsman Usman Khan, playing in a down position, scored 13 runs but was caught out by Axar Patel.

Pakistan’s third wicket fell at a total of 73 runs when Fakhar Zaman, after making 13 runs, was caught by Hardik Pandya.

Pakistan suffered a major setback at 80 runs when Mohammad Rizwan, after scoring 31 runs, was caught out, being the fourth player to be dismissed.
