Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has approached the Lahore High Court seeking protection from potential military custody in relation to the May 9 incidents.

Through his lawyer, Uzair Karamat Bhandari, Khan filed a petition with the High Court, naming the federal government and the Inspectors General of Police from all four provinces as respondents.

In his petition, Khan expressed concerns about the possibility of being handed over to the army in connection with the May 9 cases. He argued that any potential arrest should be handled by civilian courts and requested the court to issue an order preventing his transfer to military custody.

According to the petition, during Wednesday’s hearing, the Lahore High Court raised concerns about the legality of the actions and orders taken against Imran Khan, which has created “a sense of panic in the ranks of those who are desperate to keep him behind bars on one pretext or the other.”

The petition further stated that if the army were to detain Khan, it would represent “a complete travesty of justice and due process.”
