The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has asked for a report from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) regarding internet service issues in Adaila jail where Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan is currently incarnated.

During the hearing, PTI’s legal team, including Shoaib Shaheen and Faisal Chaudhry, along with jail authorities, were present.

Later, ECP’s counsel questioned prison officials about the non-availability of video link through which Imran Khan was supposed to present in the hearing, to which they replied that the internet service in the jail had been disrupted.

Shoaib Shaheen, representing Imran, requested ECP to allow a meeting between Imran and his legal team, but the commission responded that it is beyond their mandate.

Then the ECP adjourned the hearing until November 5, while ordering the PTA to submit a report on the internet situation in the jail.

Imran Khan at Adiala

Earlier, the Adiala jail authorities rubbished the claims made by the PTI about ill-treatment of Imran Khan.

The jail authorities said: “Imran Khan has been given all facilities, including uninterrupted electricity, proper meals and the opportunity to exercise regularly.”

They said that a professional cook prepared his meals, which included a wide range of dishes to his taste.

“Khan’s breakfast consists of coffee, chia seeds, beetroot juice, yoghurt, chapati, biscuits and dates. For lunch, he is served traditional curry, local chicken, chapati, salad, green tea, and mutton. Dinner includes porridge, coconut, coconut juice and grapes, all prepared under the supervision of an assistant superintendent”, the authorities said.

“His food is prepared according to his choices and under strict supervision,” the statement read, dismissing claims made during the press conference by the PTI leaders.
