Islamabad High court on Thursday overturned Human rights activist Imaan Mazari and her husband’s physical remand, resulting in their transfer to jail under judicial remand.
In a ruling, a two-member bench of the Islamabad High Court, headed by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, hears the plea against the physical remand of Imaan Mazari and her husband, Hadi Ali. Their legal representatives, Qaiser Imam and Zainab Janjua, appear before the court to contest the remand.
During the proceedings, the Chief Justice instructs the prosecutor to read out the remand request. The prosecutor complies, confirming that the order is accurate. In response to the prosecutor’s assurance, the Chief Justice notes that remand orders should align with the guidelines established by the Lahore High Court.
Qaiser Imam points out that there has been no clear status on the request to suspend the remand since it was temporarily ceased the previous day, indicating a lack of clarity.
Chief Justice Farooq says, “The judge from the Anti-Terrorism Court has not provided substantial reasons for the decision to grant a physical remand.”
Imaan Mazari was taken into custody by the Aabpara police. Earlier in the case, the couple misbehaved and breached security protocols with the traffic police regarding road closures set up for the England cricket team. According to sources, the incident occurred at Islamabad’s Zero Point Interchange in the morning.
After that, the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday handed over human rights activist Imaan Mazari and her husband to the police for a three-day physical remand, as they were accused of interfering in government operations.
