The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Saturday issued a written order preventing the arrest of PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat without the court’s explicit approval.
This decision followed Marwat’s plea, filed through his legal counsels Adil Aziz Qazi and Riasat Ali Azad, challenging his recent arrest and the cases lodged against him.
Moreover, Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the inspector generals of Punjab and Islamabad police, and the interior ministry to submit detailed, paragraph-wise comments on Marwat’s petition.
Marwat, a senior lawyer and member of the National Assembly, was arrested on September 9 alongside PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan outside the Parliament House.

In addition, the arrest followed an alleged violation of the Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Bill, 2024, enacted just before the PTI’s power show on September 8 in Islamabad. During the rally, clashes erupted between PTI supporters and police, leading to multiple arrests.
According to Marwat, the police arrested him without an arrest warrant and failed to return his pistol and five Kalashnikovs, which were in his car at the time of the arrest. He also denied accusations of tearing a police officer’s uniform, dismissing the charges against him as baseless.
The IHC has now directed all relevant authorities to refrain from arresting Marwat without seeking the court’s permission as the legal process unfolds.
