Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General (IG) Akhter Hayat Gandapur, in an interview with Azad Digital, commented on the ongoing police protests in Lakki Marwat.

He stated that both internal and external elements within the police force are trying to destabilise the situation. He highlighted that efforts are being made to address these issues through discussions with the elders (mashran) in line with Pashtun traditions.

The IG clarified that cooperation between the police and the Pakistan Army in combating terrorism in the province will continue.

Moreover, he stressed that success against terrorism cannot be achieved without the support of the Army. The IG KP Police noted that both the police and the Army are working together to ensure peace, with a shared goal of a peaceful Pakistan and a peaceful Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He mentioned that operations in the southern regions of the province will continue, aiming to minimise our losses while maximising damage to the enemy.

He further stated that in the first eight months of 2024, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) had killed 177 terrorists. The IG expressed his commitment to making every effort to ensure Khyber Pakhtunkhwa becomes a peaceful province.

IG KP added that the KP Police is a disciplined organization, with some individuals in the forefront and others behind the scenes. He noted that there are procedures for expressing legitimate demands.

Furthermore, mischief-makers are attempting to misuse the police’s sacrifices. In the fight against terrorism, the public, police, security forces, and agencies have worked together, and some elements are not fond of this positive joint cooperation.
