Moreover, the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) signed two pivotal agreements aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in peaceful applications of nuclear technology. The signing ceremony was attended by key officials, including Pakistan’s Ambassador in Vienna, Mr. Kamran Akhtar Malik, and Ms. Najat Mokhtar, IAEA Deputy Director General for Nuclear Applications.
The agreements include the designation of PINSTECH as an IAEA Collaborating Center and a Practical Arrangement between NCNDT and IAEA, marking a recognition of Pakistan’s five decades of expertise in nuclear safety and security.
On the sidelines of the conference, Chairman PAEC informed delegations from China, Russia, Turkey, and other nations about Pakistan’s utilisation of nuclear technology to meet UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to assist developing countries in achieving these goals through peaceful nuclear applications.

Director General Grossi praised Pakistan’s role in advancing the IAEA’s objectives and acknowledged the country’s expertise. He expressed appreciation for the collaborative efforts being made towards sustainable development through nuclear science.
In further recognition of its commitment, Pakistan has been elected to the IAEA Board of Governors for a two-year term starting September 2024, marking its 21st term and reinforcing its longstanding collaboration with the IAEA.
The conference also saw the launch of the 3rd Edition of the PAEC booklet “Atoms for Sustainable Development,” highlighting the application of nuclear technology to 11 out of 17 UN SDGs.
Chairman PAEC, Raja Ali Raza Anwar, is set to participate as a high-level speaker in the general debate at the conference and has held discussions with UK Minister of State, Lord Hunt of Kings Heath, on mutual areas of interest.
This engagement reflects Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to leverage nuclear technology for development and international cooperation in the field.
