WASHINGTON: Vice President Kamala Harris has accepted her defeat in the 2024 US presidential election and urged her supporters to accept President-elect Donald Trump’s victory.
In her concession speech, she said, “While I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign.”
Harris also promised to continue the “fight that fueled this campaign.”
According to CNN, Harris reached out to Trump to congratulate him on his victory. She committed to a peaceful transfer of power following his historic win, stressing her hope that he would serve as “a president for all Americans.”
As per reports, the conversation was brief, lasting only a few minutes.
Trump’s win: The Republican president-elect will return for a second term in a historic comeback to the White House after four years.
After losing in 2020, his supporters attempted to overturn the results, and he is facing criminal convictions and charges.
Trump becomes the second president in US history, after Grover Cleveland, to win a non-consecutive second term and make a comeback to the White House.
In his victory speech on Wednesday, Trump said he would bring peace, stop wars, and vowed to “heal” the nation, fix the border, and deliver a strong economy.
