WEB DESK: Today commemorates the birth anniversary of Pakistan’s beloved comedian, Umer Shareef, known as the ‘King of Comedy.’

Hailing from Karachi, Shareef made a significant impact on Pakistan’s entertainment landscape from an early age. His rise to prominence in the 1980s was marked by iconic performances like “Bakra Qistoon Pe,” showcasing his comedic brilliance in stand-up routines that spanned satire, character sketches, and improvisational humor.

Recognising the burgeoning demand for recorded entertainment, Shareef expanded his reach by filming his stage shows, allowing his humor to reach audiences far and wide, cementing his status as a national treasure.

His repertoire includes memorable productions such as “Akbar e Azam in Pakistan,” “Mano Meri Baat,” and “Eidy Chupa ke Rakhna.” He also graced television screens with “The Shareef Show,” where he engaged in insightful interviews with prominent figures from Pakistan.

Beyond comedy, Shareef ventured into acting, earning accolades for his roles in films like “Mr 420,” which garnered multiple awards, including Best Movie.
