The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has prohibited the use of green meters in solar systems, according to a private channel. Instead, consumers must now install Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters.
Sarwar Mughal, Director of Customer Services, issued the notification for this change. LESCO will provide a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) for purchasing AMI meters, which consumers will then buy from the market.

This switch will cost consumers an additional Rs20,000 compared to the green meters. The implementation of AMI meters aims to decrease overbilling and reduce electricity theft.
Last month, the federal government decided against imposing new duty on solar panels. The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
