After the Punjab Environment Protection Agency (EPA) ordered the closure of educational institutions, the School Education Department notified that schools and colleges would remain closed for the next 10 days due to the rising toxic smog in the province.
However, CEO District Education Lahore Nazir Hussain announced that teachers of public schools and colleges in Lahore will come to institutions as per routine.
There will be no leave for teachers in Lahore’s government schools. Only children will have leave as teachers will take online classes for students from school, CEO Education added. He said that the schedule for online classes will be released soon.
In a notification, the EPA issued a notification closing all educational institutions in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Faisalabad, Chiniot, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, and Vehari.
As per the notification, schools and colleges, both private and public, will remain closed for in-person classes up to Class XII and A Levels from November 7 to 17, 2024.
On the other hand, the Punjab Teachers’ Union said that the children studying in government schools do not have mobile and internet facilities. The teachers’ body demanded the government to review the decision regarding online classes.
