In a significant move aimed at national security and safety, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has ordered to stop issuing passports to Pakistanis seeking asylum abroad.

According to sources, all Pakistanis who seek refuge in other countries for any reason will have their passports canceled and will not be eligible for renewal.

The Ministry of Interior, following Naqvi’s directives, has issued a formal letter conveying this decision. This letter has been sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant authorities to ensure its implementation.

Moreover, the Directorate General, Immigration and Passports in a letter to all the passport issuing authorities aboard has informed about the interior ministry’s decision.

“In the backdrop of national security concerns and international commitments, the competent authority i.e Federal Minister for Interior has directed to not to issue passport to any individual who has sought asylum or already living on asylum in foreign countries, in the best national interest,” the letter stated.
