Govt shortlists six firms for PIA privatisation bid

WEB DESK: On Monday, the privatisation minister announced that Pakistan has designated six companies as qualified to bid for the purchase of the national carrier, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

This declaration follows a recent extension of the deadline for submitting expressions of interest, with a total of eight companies and consortiums showing interest initially.

The finalists include Air Blue, Arif Habib Corporation, Blue World City, Fly Jinnah, Pak Ethanol (Pvt) Consortiums, and YB Holdings Consortiums, as confirmed by a statement from Abdul Aleem Khan’s office.

“The pre-qualified entities are eligible to participate in the bidding process for PIA,” stated the minister.

As part of reforms encouraged by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the government aims to divest a stake ranging from 51% to 100% in the financially struggling airline.
