ISLAMABAD: The federal government is deliberating over a proposal to eliminate the Saturday holiday for federal government employees, with a final decision expected to be announced in the coming days.
According to media reports, the recommendation to review the holiday schedule was put forth by the federal government, and if approved, the two-day weekly off system will be discontinued starting July 1, 2024. The proposal is likely to face opposition from public sector employees, who may resist the idea of losing one of their weekly holidays.
Notably, during Shehbaz Sharif’s previous term, there was consideration given to reinstating the Saturday holiday for government employees. However, the decision encountered significant resistance and was ultimately not implemented.
