Govt Denies Rumours of Handing Over Gwadar to China

Gwadar deputy commissioner Hamud-ur-Rehman has responded to reports circulating on social media regarding fencing of the Gwadar city and the port.

According to the deputy commissioner, the are no plans to hand over Gwadar to China. “These are all baseless rumors to misguide the people,” Hamud-ur-Rehman said.

He added that the provincial government will ensure the prosperity of the people and protection of their traditional values. The deputy commissioner also talked about the government’s plans to transform Gwadar into a smart port city of the region.

Hamud-ur-Rehman stated that the Balochistan government has approved a safe city project for the port city to ensure complete protection of the people and the city. “The aim of launching the safe city project is to curb crime, stop smuggling of goods and defeat acts of terrorism,” he said.

As part of this project, the provincial authorities will install cameras and introduce a latest traffic checking system. He said those spreading such baseless rumours wanted to impede the development of the Gwadar city and instigate a law and order situation in the area.

The deputy commissioner further said that a similar campaign was initiated during the inauguration of the Industrial Agriculture Park and the construction of the Gwadar International Airport.
