Govt announces holiday for islamic new year

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has announced that Sunday, July 7, 2024, will be a paid holiday for private sector employees in the UAE in celebration of the Islamic New Year, which marks the start of the Hijri year 1446 AH.

This decision, made public on Tuesday, aligns with the Islamic calendar, marking Muharram 1 as a significant day that commemorates Prophet Mohammed’s (peace be upon him) migration from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD.
