The Federal Ministry of Petroleum has rolled out a gas load management plan for the upcoming winter season, which mandates the closure of all Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations across Pakistan in December and January.
This move aims to prioritise uninterrupted gas supply for domestic consumers during peak winter demand. Under the new plan, gas supply will also be halted to industries that generate electricity using gas during these months.

Sui Northern Gas Company Limited (SNGCL) has been ordered to make sure all CNG stations remain closed from December 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025. The policy will apply nationwide, including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and provinces where industries operate captive power stations.
During a meeting led by Petroleum Minister Musadik Malik, officials highlighted that domestic gas production faces a five percent annual decline, necessitating stricter gas distribution measures.
Despite gas production in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh, the government has decided to keep CNG stations in both provinces shut for the first two months of winter to conserve resources.
This plan reflects the ministry’s effort to balance the dwindling gas supply with the increased heating needs of households in the cold season.
