Govt all set to revamp PTV

Pakistan’s Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar announced efforts to revitalise Pakistan Television (PTV), aiming to transform it into a dynamic and profitable media organisation.

Speaking during Question Hour in the National Assembly, Tarar said that private sector anchors are being recruited to ensure balanced representation, including sufficient space for the opposition. He reiterated the government’s commitment to making PTV financially viable.

Tarar also highlighted that the government has implemented a minimum wage policy of 37,000 rupees and has submitted a case to PTV’s Board of Directors for formal approval of this wage standard.

Addressing a separate query about the fire incident at Weekly Bazar H-9, Tarar detailed that the blaze, which occurred on July 10, 2024, destroyed 625 stalls, resulting in an estimated financial loss of 280 million rupees.

Following an inquiry, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered the development of a comprehensive fire safety plan and instructed authorities to conduct monthly fire safety audits in all Mercantile Bazaars in Islamabad, adhering to the Islamabad Fire Prevention and Life Safety Regulations 2010 and international best practices.
