Government plans 10-15% increase in salaries and pensions: Report

The federal government is reportedly mulling over different proposals to increase salaries of public sector employees by 10 to 15 percent in the 2024-25 budget.

According to a report published by Mehtab Haider in The News, the Ministry of Finance wants to raise the salary by just 10 percent. However, due to some pressure, the salaries might by increased between 12.5 and 15 percent in the upcoming budget.

Moreover, official sources told the national daily that government will introduce pension reforms in the next budget for 2024-25. Officials are considering a proposal to impose tax on pensioners who are getting over Rs100,000 per month.

The top official sources also told The News that they “may propose jacking up age limit of public sector employees by two or five years along with a comprehensive package for pension reforms.”

On of the proposals under consideration is to increase the monetisation of cars for higher-grade officers (grades 20, 21, and 22) by 20 to 25 percent. It should be noted that grade 20, 21, and 22 officers have been getting monetisation of cars of  Rs67,000, Rs77,000, and Rs87,000 per month, respectively.
