LAHORE: Former Pakistani Olympian hockey player Zahid Sharif has hinted at the desperate measure of selling his kidney to pay his electricity bill due to severe financial hardship.
In an emotional appeal, Sharif called upon the President, Prime Minister, Army Chief, and Chief Minister of Punjab for assistance. He highlighted his dire financial difficulties, stating that he is unable to afford his electricity bill.
Sharif urged the government to provide financial support to both hockey players and cricketers, emphasizing the severity of his situation. He mentioned that he possesses medals and a kidney, which he is willing to sell to make ends meet. This plea underscores the financial struggles faced by many retired athletes in Pakistan and highlights the need for improved support systems for sports professionals after their careers end.

In a similar vein, a resident of Jaranwala, Punjab, has also announced the sale of his heart and kidneys to pay his electricity bill, with the video gaining widespread attention on social media.
The affected individual, Yaseen, stated that he has been living with a disability for five years and questioned how he could pay a bill of 10,300 rupees. He added that in addition to selling his heart and kidneys, he is also willing to give up his eyes to settle the electricity bill.
Yaseen appealed to the government to honor its promise of providing free electricity to poor and needy families.
These incidents highlight the extreme measures some citizens are willing to take due to financial distress and the urgent need for government intervention to support vulnerable populations.
