Federal cabinet approves intelligence-based military operation ‘Azm-e-Istehkam’

The federal cabinet on Tuesday approved the decisions taken by the National Action Plan’s Central Apex Committee, including Operation ‘Azm-e-Istehkam.’

According to the sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif assured that citizens would not face any trouble during the operation and their houses would not be raided.

“Only intelligence-based operations would be carried out against terrorists,” PM was quoted by the sources as saying.

The decision follows the Apex Committee’s approval last Saturday of the military operation, which is a reinvigorated and re-energized national counter-terrorism drive aimed at intensifying actions against militants targeting Pakistan.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) stated that the new counter-terrorism initiative was approved with the consensus of all stakeholders, including provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

However, opposition parties, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam Fazl (JUI-F), Awami National Party (ANP), and others, have expressed concerns about the military operation, insisting that parliament must be consulted before making such decisions.

To address these concerns, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has stated that the government would ensure the PTI and other opposition parties are satisfied with the military operation.
