Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, emphasised the urgent need for a constitutional court, stating, “It is necessary and obligatory; we will establish it.”

Speaking at the Sindh High Court Bar in Karachi, he criticised the notion that constitutional and legislative matters could be addressed solely through the judiciary.

Referring to the 19th constitutional amendment, he revealed that it was introduced due to threats from the Supreme Court but affirmed a commitment to judicial reforms in line with the Charter of Democracy.

Bilawal highlighted the need to reform the appointment process for judges, pointing out that in the United States, the entire parliament decides on judicial appointments, which he believes contributes to the absence of martial law there.

Moreover, he stated, “We will create a constitutional court to ensure no prime minister is unjustly removed and to provide justice to the people.”

He recounted past injustices, recalling that during Zia-ul-Haq’s regime, many political activists faced violence, and the judiciary failed to serve its purpose.

“At that time, Iftikhar Chaudhry was not a revolutionary but a PCO judge, and our judicial system was broken,” he said, emphasising that the establishment of a constitutional court is essential for restoring justice, as courts were preoccupied with trivial matters like pricing fried snacks.
