Renowned Pakistani actor Haroon Shahid has underscored the importance of imparting essential skills and values to children, rather than simply leaving them material wealth. Speaking on a private TV channel’s morning show alongside fellow actor Kamran Jilani, Shahid discussed his approach to parenting.
Focus on education & values
Shahid shared, “I often tell my wife that I don’t want to leave any property for our children.” He explained that his primary concern is not about securing their financial future through inheritance but through equipping them with tools to thrive independently. “I aim to provide them with a quality education and practical skills so they can stand on their own if I’m not around.”
The actor, known for his role in Khaas, emphasised the value of nurturing strong character, saying, “I want them to grow into respectful and kind individuals.”

Shahid pointed out that many financially secure people lose their wealth due to life’s unpredictability, highlighting the need for resilience and adaptability.
Wealth without skills is insufficient
Haroon Shahid also expressed concern about those who prioritise accumulating wealth at the expense of acquiring essential life skills and values. “People who focus only on wealth often struggle to cope when their financial situation changes,” he noted. “Without education or skills, they may fall into depression and find it difficult to rebuild their lives.”
In his view, teaching children independence and resilience is far more valuable than leaving them with material assets. Shahid’s message serves as a reminder to parents that a focus on personal development can better prepare future generations for life’s uncertainties.
