On Wednesday, England’s Ollie Robinson conceded 43 runs in the most expensive over in English County Championship history as Louis Kimber reached the fastest double hundred in the competition.

During the fourth and final day of their Division Two match, Sussex paceman Robinson was hit for two sixes, six fours – three off no-balls – and a single by Leicestershire’s Kimber.

The previous record for the most runs conceded in an over was 38, set by Surrey’s Alex Tudor in 1998 when Lancashire’s Andrew Flintoff hit 34 of those runs.

This record was equaled earlier this week when England spinner Shoaib Bashir, playing for Worcestershire against Surrey, also gave up 38 runs, with Dan Lawrence contributing most of them.

Kimber, batting at number eight, scored 243 runs off just 127 balls, bringing Leicestershire close to an incredible win. However, he was bowled by Nathan McAndrew with his team falling just short as Sussex secured victory by 18 runs.

Kimber’s double-hundred came off just 100 balls, marking the second-fastest in first-class cricket history.
