Eight elephants have died within 48 hours in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, raising concerns over the cause of their deaths.
According to NDTV, seven elephants were found dead on Tuesday, and one more was discovered on Wednesday. Out of the eight deceased elephants, seven were female, while one was male.
Wildlife officials said that the ages of the female elephants ranged around three years, while the male elephant was believed to be between four and five years old. Investigations into their deaths are currently underway, with a detailed report expected to be submitted within 10 days.
Suspiciously, the cause of the deaths has been found to be poisoning. Wildlife authorities have already searched over a dozen farms and homes in the area where the elephants were found, and five individuals have been investigated in connection with the case.
Moreover, one more elephant is reported to be in critical condition, while another was treated and released after receiving medical attention.
