ISLAMABAD: Renowned Pakistani mountaineer Naila Kiani now serves as the National Goodwill Ambassador for Girls’ Education, appointed by the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training.

Promoting Girls’ Education

Kiani, known for her record-setting achievements in mountaineering, will now focus on promoting girls’ education across Pakistan. She aims to support educational initiatives led by both federal and provincial governments.

Record-Breaking Achievements

Kiani became the first Pakistani woman, and the third Pakistani overall, to climb 11 of the world’s 14 highest peaks, all over 8,000 meters. Additionally, she became the first Pakistani woman to climb an 8,000-meter mountain in Pakistan. Her notable summits include Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum I (G-I), Gasherbrum II (G-II), Lhotse, Manaslu, Broad Peak, Annapurna, Makalu, and Cho Oyu.

Recent Milestones

In 2023, Kiani became one of only ten mountaineers globally—and the sole Pakistani—to scale seven peaks above 8,000 meters in under six months. Furthermore, she holds the record as the fastest Pakistani, regardless of gender, to climb all 11 of these peaks in less than three years.

Honours and Recognition

Kiani is the only female athlete in Pakistan to receive the Sitara-i-Imtiaz, the country’s highest civilian honor for a female athlete. Thus, her appointment highlights her dedication to empowering women through education.

Mission and Vision

With a background in aerospace engineering and banking, Kiani strongly believes that education is crucial for women’s empowerment. In her new role, she will raise awareness about the importance of girls’ education. Moreover, she will support government initiatives to enhance educational opportunities for girls nationwide.

Inspiring Future Generations

Kiani’s mission is to inspire young girls to pursue their dreams and reach their full potential. Reflecting on her appointment, she stated, “I am honored to be the National Goodwill Ambassador for Girls’ Education. Education is the only route to women’s empowerment and success for our country. I am committed to using my platform to support and advocate for educational initiatives that ensure every girl in Pakistan has access to quality education.”

A Step Towards Empowerment
