A grand ceremony is held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi to commemorate Defense Day, attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, along with senior military and government officials
Speaking at the event, Army Chief General Asim Munir expressed profound gratitude to all martyrs and veterans who have safeguarded Pakistan’s sovereignty since its inception. He highlighted the sacrifices made by countless individuals whose blood nourished the soil of Pakistan, securing its honor and safety.
General Munir lauded the unwavering spirit of the Pakistani people, who stood by the armed forces and law enforcement agencies in challenging times. He noted that the nation has consistently displayed remarkable courage in defending its freedom.
Recalling pivotal moments in Pakistan’s history, including the wars of 1948, 1965, 1971, and Kargil, the Army Chief highlighted that thousands of soldiers gave their lives for the nation’s security. He also acknowledged the ongoing sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, a battle that will continue until the complete eradication of terrorism from Pakistan.
General Munir further praised the immense contributions of the people, particularly those from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, who have played a pivotal role in this long struggle. He stated that the fight against extremist forces and terrorists has resulted in the gradual stabilization of the country.
He pointed to significant achievements, such as the formal management of Pakistan’s western borders, the integration of tribal areas into the provinces, and socio-economic development in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. These, he said, are direct results of the sacrifices made by the martyrs and the determination of the state.
The Army Chief reiterated the strong bond between the Pakistani people and the armed forces, which has remained steadfast in the face of external aggression, terrorism, natural disasters, and national development projects. This unity, he stated, is the key to defeating Pakistan’s enemies.
He also addressed the forces working to create divisions between the military and the people, warning that such efforts will fail. Pakistan’s resolve for stability, embodied in the National Action Plan, integrates a coordinated national strategy against terrorism and extremism. This plan is not about displacing people but is essential for the country’s security.
In his concluding remarks, the Army Chief reaffirmed the commitment to honoring the sacrifices of the martyrs by moving forward with a clear vision for Pakistan’s future. He urged the nation to continue its journey towards a brighter future, grounded in the eternal teachings of Islam and the values of unity and resilience.
General Munir also called for religious tolerance and the protection of minority rights, as enshrined in the Constitution, while ensuring that political differences do not turn into divisions of hatred.
