Customs authorities have seized over two dozen imported phones, including the newly launched iPhone 16 Pro Max, at Islamabad Airport.

According to media reports, customs officials at the airport confiscated 30 iPhone 16 Pro Max units from passengers arriving from the UAE, along with several other imported phones.

Sources revealed that one of the passengers, a resident of Quetta, was allegedly in contact with a member of the Customs staff. However, other officials intervened and thwarted the smuggling attempt.

Meanwhile, the price of gold has dropped by Rs 600 per tola in Pakistan. Unofficial estimates suggest that the base model of the iPhone 16 could exceed Rs450,000 for PTA-approved units, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max may cost as much as Rs900,000. Last year, the iPhone 15 Pro Max was priced as high as Rs900,000, including PTA charges and taxes, within the first two months of its release. Profits from importing phones without paying duties and selling them in the market can be substantial.

An FIR has reportedly been registered against the passenger involved, but the customs official who was allegedly assisting in the smuggling attempt was not named in the case.
