A trained Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) dog was accidentally shot and killed by a Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) bird shooter at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, sparking an investigation into the incident.

The dog, which played a crucial role in detecting drugs in planes and passengers’ luggage, was fatally shot after being mistaken for a stray. According to airport sources, the dog had escaped its cage due to staff negligence and wandered onto the runway.

The CAA bird shooter, who was stationed at the airport to keep birds away from aircraft, was alerted by the control tower during aircraft parking and opened fire on the dog, believing it posed a threat.

The incident has raised serious concerns about airport security protocols. Both CAA and ANF officials have launched a joint investigation to understand the events leading up to the shooting and to hold those responsible accountable. Officials are also reviewing measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
