Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said at a news conference on Sunday that the federal government has gathered information on 4.9 million non-filers, encompassing their assets, homes, overseas trips, and automobiles.
Moreover, the government is prepared to send letters to enforce the tax regime.
Aurangzeb clarified that this data, sourced from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and other channels, is intended to integrate non-filers into the tax system rather than to harass them.
In addition, notices will be issued centrally, with field officers only engaging with individuals when necessary. Strict action will be taken against tax defaulters, he highlighted.
Aurangzeb expressed gratitude for the support of the Tajir Dost Scheme, noting that tax refunds totaling Rs. 70 billion have been issued since July 1st.
