Former caretaker federal minister Gohar Ejaz stated that the cost of electricity generation in July was 9 rupees and 3 paisa per unit.

In his statement, the former caretaker minister questioned how electricity bills are being issued at 40, 60, and 70 rupees per unit despite the production cost being 9 rupees and 3 paisa in July.

He mentioned that the average electricity production in July was 20,000 megawatts, with 35% of the electricity generated from hydropower sources. The fundamental issue, he said, is the capacity payments being made without generating any electricity.

Gohar Ejaz further stated that all electricity consumers are being affected by these capacity charges.
