WEB DESK: The cost of cooking essentials has risen sharply as major ghee and cooking oil brands have significantly increased their prices. This price hike has further strained household budgets, with inflation continuing to climb.
According to the Sensitive Price Index (SPI), price rises for sugar, cooking oil, firewood, tomatoes, and vegetable ghee were the main causes of the 38 per cent inflation.
Cooking alone now costs an average of Rs570 per kilogram, up Rs80 per kilogram. Prices for most well-known brands have increased by up to Rs100 per kilogram and per liter. Industry analysts attribute this increase to the volatility of palm oil prices, which are now between USD1,290 and USD1,300 per ton.
Price updates include:
Meezan Cooking Oil: Price Rs3100 for five kilograms.
Meezan Canola Oil: Price/5-liter carton at Rs2800.
Sufi Canola Cooking Oil: Price/5-liter carton at Rs2,900.
Original Cooking Oil: Price/3-liter bottle at Rs1,585.
