LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Friday launched the free solar panel scheme for 100,000 consumers in Punjab to offer lasting relief to the public from the burden of expensive electricity.

While formally inaugurating the CM Punjab Free Solar Panel Scheme, she said that consumers can apply under the scheme via SMS or online portal from today. Under the scheme, 100,000 solar systems will be distributed over the next year.

According to the details, the 550-watt solar systems will be provided to consumers using up to 100 units of electricity monthly, while those consuming up to 200 units will receive 1100-watt solar systems.

The program is expected to significantly reduce electricity bills for eligible consumers and contribute to environmental sustainability by lowering carbon emissions by approximately 57,000 tons annually.

How to apply for Punjab solar panel scheme

Chief Minister Punjab said that the applicant can visit the online portal “cmsolarscheme.punjab.gov.pk” to apply for the “free Solar Panel Scheme”.

Consumers can also register for the scheme by sending an SMS to 8800. Verification will be done using the reference number and CNIC number mentioned on the monthly bill of the consumers. A computerized ballotting will be conducted to ensure transparency in the Scheme.

“Earlier 7.3 million consumers of Punjab benefited from the subsidy of Rs.14 per unit, adding that public resources will be spent only for the public convenience and relief,” she said.
