WEB DESK: In the federal budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2024-25, a proposal has been made to increase the salaries of government employees by 15 to 20 per cent.

Sources from the Ministry of Finance have reported that a 20% salary increase has been proposed for government employees from grade 1 to grade 16, while a 15% salary increase has been suggested for officers from grade 17 to grade 22.

In addition, a 20% increase in pensions has been proposed for retired government employees from grade 1 to grade 16, and a 15 percent increase has been suggested for retired employees from grade 17 to grade 22.

Budget documents have been sent to the Parliament for approval by the federal cabinet.

The final approval for salary and pension increases will be given in a federal cabinet meeting. A proposal has also been prepared to raise the retirement age of government employees to 62 years.

These proposals will be implemented in consultation with provincial governments. After approval from the federal cabinet, the matter will be sent to the Council of Common Interests for further consideration.

Sources also indicate that if approved by provincial governments, the implementation will commence from the next fiscal year
