NEW YORK: Renowned Pakistani activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai is facing criticism following her collaboration with former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on a new Broadway musical titled ‘Suffs’.
According to media reports, the production delves into the history of women’s suffrage, tracing the struggle for women’s right to vote back to the early 1900s.
The announcement of Yousafzai’s involvement in the musical has sparked backlash on social media platforms. Journalist Sana Saeed voiced concerns over Yousafzai’s partnership with Clinton, highlighting Clinton’s association with CIA drone strikes in northern Pakistan during her tenure as Secretary of State.
Very cool that Malala is working alongside the former Secretary of State who supported the CIA drone wars that killed & maimed countless in Northern Pakistan, destroying access to education; a former SoS who is actively supporting the genocide in Gaza right now.

Malala Yousafzai gained international recognition after surviving an attack by the Taliban in 2012 and has since become a prominent advocate for education, particularly for girls. However, critics point out her apparent silence on issues such as Israel’s actions in Gaza, which has led to the deaths of thousands of Palestinians.
Social media users expressed disappointment and disillusionment with Yousafzai, with some questioning her consistency in speaking out against violence and oppression. Others highlighted what they perceived as Yousafzai’s alignment with imperial powers and her silence on certain humanitarian crises.
The ‘Suffs’ musical marks Yousafzai’s debut as a co-producer and ambassador for a theatrical production. Meanwhile, the ongoing conflict in Gaza continues to deepen the humanitarian crisis in the region.
