The distribution of bikes among students under the Punjab government initiative has been further delayed following the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) decision to extend its stay order.
During the yesterday’s hearing of the case, LHC’s Justice Shahid Karim directed the government to present a policy keeping in view the environmental impacts.
The LHC judge also expressed his displeasure over the government ministers’ statements regarding his decision against the policy of distributing 1,000 electric and 19,000 petrol-run motorbikes.
He told the Advocate General Punjab (AGP) Khalid Ishaq that Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari should refrain from making such statements.
“They (ministers) do not know what they are saying,” he added. The AGP assured the court that the government officials won’t comment on judicial decisions.

Justice Shahid Karim urged the government to provide electric buses to educational institutes instead of motorcycles to students until a new policy was formulated.
He also ordered the principal law officer to provide a comprehensive report by May 17 on the distribution of motorcycles and the environmental policy.
